Today, I tried to give some change to a homeless man. My girlfriend pulled me away and ranted about how homeless people are all basically bastards who deserve their misfortune, and that I shouldn't give "our" money away. FML

Today, I saw a homeless guy in the street. It really upset me how everyone's spirit of giving vanished as soon as Christmas was over, so I said fuck it and gave him about $50 worth of money. I barely made it 10 feet away, when another guy mugged him for the money I just gave. FML

Today, I passed a homeless person asking for change. When I politely apologized and told him that I had none, he yelled angrily, "Who comes to this city without money?" I replied, "Apparently, you do." Wrong answer. He followed me, now screaming. FML

Today, I was accosted by an angry homeless man at the recycling center, since I refused to give him my saved up bottles and cans. He insisted that he needed it more and I was "poaching his turf". I needed the recycling to put gas in my car, just to make it to work and hope I could make it back home. FML

Today, I was at the mall with my mom, when I saw a little pamphlet about a charity for abused children. I showed her and said I was going to donate a few dollars. She quickly said no, calling it a waste of money and muttering that the kids probably deserved it anyway. FML

Today, I stayed with a friend because I was recently kicked out of my home and had nowhere to go. When I went out for job applications, she asked, "Can you pick me up a pack of smokes?" and then got mad that I didn't have the money, calling me selfish. FML

And what city do you work in 91? Smalltown TX, where there are only 100 homeless and you only see the 20 who are using drugs? I used to live in Boston and while I was there I spoke with the police department there on precisely this subject, of all homeless in most major cities 20% or less use drugs and of /them/ only 10% choose to do so.

Why do you say "20% or less" for the usage figures, then immediately after say only 10% "of them" choose to use drugs? 10% of 20% (or less) is 2% (or less). Are you saying only 2% (or less) use drugs, or is it closer to 20% (or less)? Also, how can the figures be different between those who "use drugs" and those who "choose to use drugs"? Are you suggesting people are prowling the street, and forcing those poor people to use drugs? Drug abuse is ALWAYS a choice, plain and simple.

It's better to give them food, or clothes. Never give them money. If they're just asking for money, they'll most likely use it for drugs. It's nice and feels good to help them with food/clothes, and they can get a job if they want money.
