maybe this is me but birthdays just aren't a big deal to me. I just turned twenty in June and it was just like every other day except with cake. haha. I don't like crowded places or lots of people so that's why I don't have parties. and when I turn 21, I'm just gonna go buy me some alcohol and celebrate at home with my husband.

Getting engaged is one thing, but she definitely could have picked a different date for her baby shower. I agree, that sucks, but did you try talking to her about it? Maybe she just forgot/didn't know that it's your birthday.

To all those wondering what the big deal is about 21 in the UK, it's more of a traditional/cultural thing. 16 is one we've picked up from America, 17 is driving, 18 is drinking, and 21 used to be the age you got the keys to the front door. Hence why a lot of 21st cards have keys on them, and people have charm bracelet charms with 21 on a key. Of course you can get keys at any age these days, and there's no law about it, but yeah, traditionally it was 21. Another reason it's celebrated over here is because 21 makes you legal for most things pretty much everywhere, and it's the first proper step into adulthood.

So.... The cousin invited probably most of her immediate and extended family, and she has to change everything and get all those people to reschedule plans, just because one of her cousins has a birthday that day?
