Today, I got a call informing me that my 16-year-old daughter had been arrested for shoplifting jewellery. Trying to look on the bright side, I assumed it was for my birthday that is coming up in a few days. Nope. It was a "Thank you" gift. For her drug dealer. FML

Tripartita, you need to take a chill pill, about 800mg, because you are flying off the handle. There really is no winning to this debate. Anything you say has a converse, i.e. people who didn't get spanked say they're fine and that their character is great (not spoilt) but how do we know that? To the extensive forums that talk about how bad it is, there are probably forums that discuss how spanking made them a better person. Most social definitive statements such as "you should never hit a child" or "you should never kill someone" has its exceptions. Statements like these are actually subjective from person to person. YOU may not be fine with it (which is obvious from your passive aggressive comments) but this is a topic that's in the grey area. Like the previous example, most people would say it's never ok to kill someone, but what if someone breaks into your house? Is the military wrong then for what they do? Similar to this, the whole abuse/discipline game is also in the grey area. Is it OK to pop them in the mouth if they've been bad? what about the behind? People won't give the same answer and it's basically popular opinion that decides what's ok or not. There's a reason this is a controversial topic. You should have just left it alone.

She is a train wreck waiting to happen
