Today, at my graduation for my high school GED, my parents said they were getting all my family and my girlfriend together. So we all went out to a steakhouse down the road, everyone ordered steaks. Turns out the 'surprise' was me paying. I only got 50$ grad money, and the bill was 159.98. FML

Wow. First off, congratulations on completing your GED, many people stop going to H.S. and then never get a GED. However, for all you claiming it's the same, it's not. For everyone claiming it's harder to take some high school level test then to show up and complete homework, tests, projects, etc. for four years, I'm sorry but your wrong. That being said, let's all agree that GED's and H.S. diplomas are jokes. Anyone with half a brain can get them. A GED accounts for approx. 1 out of every 7 H.S. diploma/certificates issued. While you can certainly become a success with a GED, the sad fact is that the majority of those with GED's are not more successful than those with H.S. diplomas. So congratulations again for sticking with it. I encourage you to continue working hard, and to defy the statistics. FYI to everyone who has read this FML. The $ sign goes before the amount. So its $50 not 50$. Oh yah and for the British person, a GED is an equivalency certificate. It is meant for those who could not/did not complete high school with a diploma, for a variety of reasons. Most commonly the reason is for illness or disciplinary reasons. There use to be a time when young men/women would enter the military early and receive a GED instead of a diploma, however that's far more rare these days.

@ #120 Why not name the schools? Her GED did not get her into that "Top 50" university, she had to go to a local college. Had she jumped right from GED to this "Top 50" school I would be impressed, but as you told it I am not. The fact is no one with a GED is going to get right into Harvard and those top schools.

Maybe if you actually finished high school and didn't get a GED your family would be more supportive. But you shouldn't have had to pay for your dinner..you have a family of assholes, i'm sorry! You're life isn't ****** tho.
