Wow. That's a little messed up. Businesses are terrified of their customers, though, because the unreasonable ones are always the ones who seem to have enough time on their hands (thus not enough production to be had) to complain about how a bagger decided to ask her to make her son stop peeing on his/her shoes. "I'm going to write a letter!" Forget about common decency, public decorum, and simple sanitation. Someone who doesn't wanna get peed on? Unheard of.
That's not fair at all. You got fired because you were telling someone to just take their kid to the rest room? Man, don't let that go to rest, you need to defend yourself and get your job back!
@56 Sounds like a plan!
I used to work at a Safeway store. Contact your union representative--seriously. If they called you into a meeting where they fired you, you have the right to a union rep. I believe it's the UFCW. I know someone who was fired for similar stupid reasons and re-hired 2 days later. Hey, that's why you pay the dues right? The union also pays the legal fees once for you or something like that.
ya parents can be pretty big d bags, i worked as a waiter and you wouldnt believe what parents say when there kids are obviously miss behaving and you politely ask them get them under control.
Any boss who desides to fire you for asking a kid's mother to stop her kid pissing all over the shop floor probably isn't a good man to work with. You're actualy somewhat lucky to be away from the dumbass.
grocery stores suck! My brother and I both worked at woodman's and were treated like crap. My brother got written up for not talking to one customer (even though he did talk to everyone else in his lane that day) then when he tried to explain that to the boss he was written up again for talking back. I was basically called worthless because I was unable to keep the floor spotless, bag groceries, and collect carts scattered in a snow covered parking lot by my self at the same time. F them.
To MOST of the people who commented before me. It's not assault. The kids friggin 6! Thats kindergarden/firstgrade age. Do you knwo how many kindergardeners and first graders still wet themselves? Yes, sometimes on other people. Some parents can be touchy about stuff like that too. Thinking "my child, who i pottytrained at 2 still has trouble with the bathroom" is embarrassing. Yeah, I would be annoyed about being peed on, but sueing for asault because a LITTLE KID peed on me? Jesus Christ people. And on top of that it could ALSO have been a medical issue. (Another thing which parents are sensitive about oftentimes.) My baby sister is 9 and still has bladder control issues because of a birth defect. You never knwo the situations. ON the other hand, I think your boss is really unreasonable. Being peed on, yeah that suck, especially wehn teh mother seems to not have a problem with it, and I deffinately would have said anything, bt to get fired for that is insane. Your boss is unreasonable. Your grocery store a chain? If so have your manager reported to the higher-ups for unreasonable termination of your job. Dont sue them, thats stupid, but mention it to whoever your boss's boss is.

Take them to court. I'm sure a jury can see the logic and misjustice in firing someone for not wanting piss on their shoes.
I am from Europe and I keep reading about crazy FML stories of people getting fired because of stupid customers. Is this quite common in America? Is the customer really always right regardless of what happens??? I am quite shocked. Many time have I told customers to f-off, with the support of my managers, simply because we get paid doesn't mean we're prostitutes who can get peed on - with a smile -
