Today, after 3 years of hard work, very little vacation and no raises, our boss got us a crappy box of drug store cookies as an employee appreciation gift. Which he ended up eating. FML

That sucks OP. Maybe time to find a new job, doesn't sound like employees are treated fairly.

Last year for my mom's Christmas bonus they gave them gold chocolate coins. She works for our middle school and that's what everyone who works in the school district received.

It sucks when your boss thinks he is the only employee...

Yep. I had one just like that. thinks like that. The asshole embezelled and shortchanging everybody, customers and employees alike. Hopefully he will rot in jail.

Quit and get a new job if it's so bad.

Good bosses are completely underrated. Bad bosses are a dime a dozen. I took about 10 interviews last year, 7 offered me jobs that pay better than I make now. I'm still at my job because my boss is pretty cool and treats people well. It doesn't hurt to look for another job, I treat it like I'm interviewing them to see if I even want to work for their company, turns out a lot of the time I don't.

I almost want to vote YDI because you're still at this job after 3 years, but I know what it is like to have horrible bosses. Most places in the US I believe at least have a 1-3 month evaluation when you first start out. If I didn't get any kind of raise at all no matter how small for that evaluation I would probably be looking for another job at that point.

some people pretty much live check to check and quitting isn't an option. also, many jobs have probationary periods lasting 3-6 months. For which you aren't receiving any job benefits. And many jobs aren't providing benefits until after you've worked a certain number of months -after- the probation. if they provide benefits at all. and this isn't to say anything of raises. i.e. I have a good job with good benefits. I'm still not going to have Healthcare covered til 2017. Because you have to work 150 days the previous year to pay for/qualify the next year's coverage. (bright side is I could work zero days in a year I qualified and still be covered)

That's unfortunate. Guys sounds like a real class act.

Yeowch. If he wanted to give you guys something, order a pizza at the very least. My old job spoiled employees for employee appreciation. We had barbecues, gift cards handed out and extended lunch break. I'm really hoping I can get my old job back because they were pretty good with their staff members.
