Don't go around thinking you deserve bonuses. They are extras, not mandatory. I'd probably refuse to give you any bonuses for that attitude.

Seriously, to everyone who thinks it's ungrateful: If someone announces a bonus, it's not unreasonable to expect it to be representative of the effort you put into something. OP didn't demand it, they announced it and then basically spit in OP's face with a 5$ store gift card. If I told you I made you a birthday cake but it's just a single burnt brownie from three days ago, I'm pretty sure you imagined something different, and it's not ungrateful if you don't actually rejoice. In some cases receiving nothing is better than receiving something that makes you feel like you're worth pretty much nothing.

Next time just hand it back and say no thanks I'm worth more than that,ether give me a bonus worth the effort I put into this job and not insult me or don't bother giving me a bonus at all.
