Today, I have to choose between getting a cellphone contract that I need, or a TV that I don't even want, but which my flatmates insist I contribute towards. The same flatmates who eat all my food. This increased grocery bill has left me unable to afford either the phone or TV. FML

Today, I had to spend all of my money on textbooks even though my refrigerator is empty. Starving and frustrated, I called home to ask for money for groceries. My mom told me I could afford to skip a few meals. FML

Today, I told my roommates they have to go get jobs, because I can't afford to support them or their bad habits any more. They responded by pawning all my DVDs for cash to buy cigarettes. FML
Today, I learned that as much as I try to save my money, it always just slips through my fingers. After rent, I got paid $280 yesterday, $85 went out on my gym membership, $95 went out on my internet, $125 went out on my Hello Fresh. I have to choose between half a tank of petrol or breakfast/lunch for the week. FML
Today, I called my mobile phone provider to end my contract. A sales rep spent over half an hour trying to convince me to reconsider, and I kept refusing. I ended up breaking down and accepting a "more economical" contract, which I didn't notice costs almost twice as much as the last one. FML
Today, I live in a world where I work 50 hours a week, and yet after paying all necessary bills, eating one meal a day, and only drinking water from the tap, I am £130 pounds poorer than last week, all because I had to use my credit card and increase my debt to buy petrol and pay the gas bill. FML
Today, my roommate and I were watching TV, and he ordered a pizza. After it was delivered, I took a slice. He yelled at me for taking his food and told me to stop mooching off him. I had to cover his rent last month and he still hasn't paid me back. FML
Today, my fiancé and I had a fight over household expenses. He's never had a job in his life, but this didn't stop him demanding that I get another full-time job to pay for video games and beer. FML
Today, I told my parents that all I wanted for my 18th birthday was to go to a restaurant in NYC for a nice dinner. My parents said no, because it would cost too much money. I came home to see my parents had bought a huge TV for $800. We already have 3 televisions. FML

If possible, buy a mini fridge (or ask your parents to purchase it for you and you can pay them back) and keep food in your room. If any of it goes missing they can't pretend that they didn't know it wasn't yours. Or make them chip in equal amounts of money for groceries. Or stop buying groceries in bulk; go to the store everyday and buy what you need to make one dinner. They'll chip in real quick once they get hungry.

I was just about to say, buy a mini fridge. Most of them lock so you shouldn't even have to worry about them going in your room and stealing it. I had to do it too.

Don't most people have their own rooms with locks anyway? All the student flats I've seen have one communal kitchen and living room with a TV, and private bedrooms with a lock

dont buy anymore food now days its almost cheaper for one person to go out to eat than to actually buy the food then sit back and watch as your flatmates will have to decide also

Get a mini-fridge for your bedroom. If you keep your food there then they can't eat it and will have to fend for themselves.

Plus it is super easy to attach a lock to the fridge so they can't go into your room and steal food that way :)

Grow a pair and say "no". They can't force you to pay for anything except rent and utilities. Tell them you don't have the money. And get a mini fridge for your room. Keep your food inside it. You can install a padlock on it to keep two legged rats out. Done and done.
