Mad beliefs

Today, I found out that the girl I've fallen in love with is a "young-earth/dinosaurs-lived-with-humans" crackpot. FML

Wait? So the flinstones arent autobiographical. Damnit, childhood ruined.

She is not a crackpot for believing something different. She is a crackpot for believing a crackpot idea. Hope I cleared that up for you.

Bet she believes in evolution too. At least this will make any further conversations with her interesting. That is if there are any.

The two theories are often at ends. So, no.

Maybe he did, but the expression is "at odds with each other."

I wrote that comment right when I woke up. I did mean odds, but was too tired to realize I'd used the wrong word.

HE deserves it for HER not having divulged the information sooner? Was he supposed to guess? Are you supposed to a learn A LIFETIME of information on someone in the time it takes to fall in love? That sounds feasible.

14, I'm with you - 3, you don't necessarily know every aspect of an individual before falling in love with them, but instead, I think you learn more the deeper you fall in love. If that makes sense.

I'm not even sure how that would come up in a conversation unless it was blurted out. OP: So, I hear the Dow-Jones is changing its lineup companies that make up it's index. GF: Yeah, but I think that if dinosaurs and humans can live together, the Dow should be able to keep the old companies as it adds new ones. OP: WTF?

If they were autobiographical, I think you'd know it.

autobiographical doesn't mean the biography of the viewer or reader.

There is a limit to that theory. If you find out she's actually a Nazi, it's time to let her go.

^This. She's a crackpot for spitting in the face of established proof and scientific theory, replacing it with a whimsical idea that has no basis.

"I think you're a Nazi, baby..."

@Baustigt - The weird thing about this is, what belief system even espouses this idea? The Abrahamic religions (Muslims, Christians, and Jews) don't believe in evolution, so probably don't believe that dinosaurs existed. Does the "Flintstones" and "Land of the Lost" or "Journey to the Center of the Earth" count as beliefs? She's just ******* crazy!

70. You don't have to believe in evolution to believe dinosaurs existed. We know they existed, we have fossils. it's just the date of those fossils and what they are exactly. People like the OPs girl believe that the method to dating dinos is wrong. She also prob has heard that they have found a fossil with a human foot print along side dinos. I have heard this but don't know the validity. Also it does fit the bible well. The bible can date to the start of life to a young earth. God created dinos along with everything else but died during the flood. I have also heard the idea that before the flood the atmosphere was different and and allowed things to get older and grow larger. If you look at some reptiles, if they didn't stop growing and had a thousand years to grow, they would look like dinos. Then because of the flood, the atmosphere changed. One more thing, I have also heard that a bunch of indigenous tribes know about dinos and the flood. Don't know the validity of that either.

By your way of thinking, 20, anyone who believes in any God whatsoever is a crack pot. They don't have scientific proof of a damn thing, yet they still believe in it. She's not hurting anyone with her ideas so I don't see a problem with it. Everyone has a right to their own interpretation of the world. Sure, hers maybe a little out there, but no more than anyone else's in my opinion.

Schizomaniac 24

No more than anyone else's. Lol. And 83's entire comment. Lol.

No, not all religious people are crackpots, because not all of them think the earth is 6000 years old and that we grew up among dinosaurs. Not all religions would therefore deny evolution, which is observable present day, and deny things like plate tectonics or basically anything about Earth. You say people are open to their "interpretation," as if facts like the age of the Earth are allowed (a certain amount of) opinion, or the history of Man and Dinosaur, which are already established to a degree that is greater than the views of OP's girlfriend.

People shouldn't just get to be stupid under the excuse of "beliefs"

#120, Yet so many people are and continue to be idiots under the illusion of belief.

Actually the bible speaks of dinosaurs(the leviathan).

Not all Christians disbelieve the idea of evolution. I like to Think of myself as a creative evolutionist. It's the idea that yes we were created- but then made better and more sophisticated, more like our creator, over the many years. And dinosaurs are ******* awesome. Anyone who says they don't exist can go suck on a fossil....

But if you're in love, shouldn't you just respect her opinion? That is, unless she's pushing you to believe a way you don't.

Creationism isn't an opinion, it's a lie. It's not supported by any evidence ever found, not even in the Bible. The leaders of the Creationism movement promote scientific illiteracy, which is harmful to everyone and heresy, which is harmful to their religion as a whole.

Creationism more sense than believe in a theory that has as many holes as it does people who believe it.

Yes, I totally believe that you understand what evolution is, or anything related to the age of the Earth of Universe. With a grasp of English like yours, you must be a genius on par with Stephen Hawking.

Technically, until either side actually Creates Life from an inanimate object, i.e. makes a living thing from something totally inanimate like a stone, i don't think we can rule out the possibility that the other side is right. For me, i believe in a God who died for me and created the first human beings from dust. But my opinion has no more replicability than anyone who believes otherwise.

Um, no. That's not Evolution and creating a living organism would not prove Evolution. Believing in Christianity is fine, but Creationism is a heresy invented by American Evangelicals because they didn't like where science was taking the country. It's as Biblical as the Rapture is, i.e. not at all.

RedPillSucks 31

But believing in Dinosaurs and humans coexisting isn't about Creationism, is it? Also, for #40, evolution is happening today and can and has been observed. Read Darwins book. You're concerned about Archeological evidence of past evolution. There's plenty of fossil evidence. The Theory of Evolution is like the Theory of Gravity. They're both theories, and nobody is questioning gravity.

28 I just meant she can think any way she wants and she has a right to it. Like I'm not an atheist but if I was dating someone who was I wouldn't break up with them because of that, I only would if that person were trying to talk me into being an atheist.

If they didn't then how do you explain the rad picture I have of Sean Connery straddling a Pterodactyl sipping a dry vodka martini. Shaken, not apocalyptically stirred.

graceinsheepwear 33

Photoshopped. It was scotch on the rocks.

I don't follow her beliefs either, but that doesn't mean I'd belittle them unnecessarily. Either live with it and judge how you feel about her based on what you value in her as a person, or accept you can't handle your differences and find someone else to love.

I honestly don't think that belittling or questioning a belief necessarily means belittling the person that holds it. Faith has constituted a barrier for way too long. Also, I don't mean to make any generalizations, but it's likely that this girl has been believing in this sort of things without ever putting any serious thought in it, which might be a deal breaker for a lot of people. (At least for me it would) This might look a bit extreme, but to atheists and even some moderate believers, this whole "young earth" thing is like Santa Claus. It just sounds crazy that someone in their right mind would believe such a lie. So I do understand OP when he doesn't feel like being in a relationship with that person anymore. However, if you want to be politically correct, I agree that the "crackpot" thing might have been uselessly insulting.
