Today, my wife told me to stop talking about my depression, in case the neighbours hear and think she’s a bad wife for not being able to keep me happy. FML

The wife isn’t having a hard time with OP’s depression. The wife is so vain that her only concern is in what the neighbours might think of HER, in other words, she thinks his depression is making her look bad.

cut your wife some slack, it can be hard to be a close to someone with depression. i know it's really hard for you too, but just know it's also hard for her.

Uhm...but you both know that it actually isn't her job to keep you happy? It's yours. And yes, depressions are hard to handle but it's doable with a lot of work from both of you. Good luck!

Sadly some people will blame her. This probably means you need to reassure your wife that it isn’t her. She’s speaking from an insecurity she has. Listening isn’t always doing what she says.
