Ironic

Today, after five years in a row of my family doing absolutely nothing to even acknowledge my birthday, I got train tickets to see my boyfriend for the weekend and celebrate with him. I woke up to six angry texts about how I'm "selfish" for not staying at home with my family. FML

You took the midnight train going anywhere?

Wow that's awful of them. If I were you I just ignore it and have great birthday. Happy birthday OP!

Honestly, screw them. Where's the middle finger emoji when you need it? If I were you, I'd reply back that they should've appreciated the past 5 birthdays you wasted with them, since they didn't even acknowledge you. I hope you had (have?) a great time! May all of your birthday wishes come true, OP.

You ought to be able to spend your birthday however you want, and if you usually spend it with them, then taking time out to spend one with your boyfriend shouldnt be a big deal. Never mind the fact that they clearly never celebrate with you anyway so what exactly do they have to guilt trip you about?

I feel you OP. It happens when you least think of them

Ugh just ugh... Next time catch the plane just to get further away from that family

Turn off your cell phone, and stay away from the internet (incase your family e-mails you) for the weekend, and have a blast with your boyfriend!!

I wouldn't even worry about it. Do you.

When you get back tell them exactly why you did it. Happy Birthday OP

Happy birthday OP this has meg griffin all over it

I hope you texted them all back with the same thing you told us. After five years, it was definitely fair for you to assume they were not planning any kind of celebration.
