Either she read an article about serotonin and wants to “get happy” or she could be a clever child suffering from depression and this is her way letting you know that.

Maybe she'll end up being an endocrinologist? Since she already knows what the hormone serotonin is.

Well, yes, puberty causes fluctuations in hormones. She probably *was* depressed. If she doesn't snap out of it in a week or two, see a doctor, because sometimes puberty can cause depression.
