Empty gestures

Today, my boss held a staff meeting to talk about how the Covid-19 pandemic has made us stronger, that all of us are family. Later, my car broke down after work, she drove by, saw me stranded on the road and we made eye contact. I thought she was going to help me, but she drove right. FML

I would have expected her to ask if I'm ok, and once I explained my issue, if we were like family, for her to offer me a ride home. But only because she said they were like family, and family would offer a lift home.

Haha! Sounds like my family! If she helped you, it would mean you are weak and dependent. Figuring your way out of the problem would make you self-reliant and strong! Tough love!!!

Unfortunately, a lot of real families are like your boss - all pretty words, then they do the opposite. :( So I guess she is like family, just not the good kind.
