Coinbased

Today, I rang up a customer’s items. The total came out to $24.67. She handed me a bag full of coins and looked at me expectantly. I asked if she had any other payment methods; she got irritated and said ,“If I did, I wouldn’t have given you this, stupid!” I had to count them. She was still 6 dollars short. FML

That's when you tell them to step aside and you'll deal with the rest of the queue first. Once they realise that they're going to waste their time too, they learn to stop doing this kind of nonsense.

If this ever happens again, say they have to put all the change in rolls before paying with it. Have your work make it into policy.

Reason why I refuse to work in the grocery industry

I realize it's still legit currency, but stores should have policies against that. There are several stores that won't accept bills larger than $20, so there should also be policy that coins be rolled or won't be accepted for an amount larger than so much. In which case, the customer should be required to go to customer service or a bank and get it exchanged for something more manageable.
