Birthday blues

By Ungrateful Guy - 10/03/2021 08:01

Today, it's my birthday. With all the lockdowns and curfews, my inner introvert was looking forward to enjoying a delicious meal and a bottle or two of wine by myself. My friends had other plans, namely a surprise Zoom party. Nice thought, I'm grateful for my friends, but I hate using Zoom. It went on for three hours. FML

Being introverted doesn't automatically mean you can't have friends. There are 4 types of introverts, Social - who aren't necessarily shy but prioritize their alone time more and prefer small intimate gathering with a few friends rather than large gatherings, Thinking - these ones typically love hypothesizing, creating, ideating, and storytelling to such an extent that it dominates much of their mental space, thus de-prioritizing other people as an unintended effect. These introverts might come across as aloof or spacey to anyone who can’t hold their attention, Anxious - these ones are the guys who are typically unsettled or uncomfortable in social gatherings and occasionally even when they are alone. They may suffer from social anxiety, or a related anxiety disorder, Restrained - they are typically very guarded until someone gets to know them enough to encourage them to leave their protective "shell", after which they become a lot more comfortable with the rest of the group. Introverts may be one or a combination of these traits.

How the hell do you have a surprise Zoom party? Did one of them hack your computer, and force it to connect to the call? If I don't want to speak to anybody, I don't answer them. Simple as that. And my roommates get flipped off. If they're friends, they would understand you wanted to be left alone. It's not rude to turn down a party you didn't know was happening.

You have friends? Plural? You mean like more than one friend? You're not an introvert, buddy.

Sorry. I'm sure they were doing what they thought was best.

I'm the same way! I hate video calls, or phone calls aside from talking with my husband or my grandmas everyone else gets texts lol. was definitely thoughtful of your friends to remember you on your birthday and im sure you appreciate it! honestly my dream birthday is to just eat yummy food and go putter around in thrift stores by myself 🤣

A tiny part of me wants to say YDI only because it's... a computer. You could have just not picked up the call. I fully understand not wanting big to-dos on your birthday and if your friends don't understand that, well... how good of friends are they?

true. because YDI equates to "you knew better and answered anyway"
