Today, it was my first day at a new job as a waitress for a wedding function centre. As I was opening the door to collect dirty plates from the guests, I bumped into a colleague carrying a tray full of full champagne glasses, all of which fell and smashed on the floor. FML

Everyone I know who has been a waiter/waitress has a similar story. On the bright side, at least it wasn't spilling something all over a patron or a manager. Congratz on your new job!

Don't all you guys have a system for going through doors to avoid this?

Don't worry...I'm sure everyone still had a smashing good time!

This is actually a rite of passage for waiting tables. Your coworkers will razz you about it until a newer noob shows up. It's traditional. Incidentally, if the boss tries to make you pay for this out of your paycheck, look for a new job ASAP. Spills and breakages are part of a restaurant's operating expenses. If the boss is cheap about that, it's a terrible place to work, and probably about to go under in any case.
