Today, it's been 3 months since my dog scratched my 9 year old granddaughter after she walked over and repeatedly kicked him. My daughter has disowned me and won't let me see my own grandchildren until I have my companion of 11 years "destroyed". FML

Clearly some adults haven't realized what your granddaughter either has by now or needs to: that there are consequences for actions and that animals are not punching bags.

Let your daughter know that you will be more than happy to see her when the dog dies of a natural death. You will only put it down when it reaches an age where it is no longer happy and healthy. When that time comes, you hope her daughter will have learned some manners.

aborting your daughter seems like a good idea right now.

Don't worry Op, you're in the right. Your granddaughter is a spoiled brat that needed to get bitten right in the face of you ask me. My parents continuously let my brat of a 9 year old brother get away with everything. He is like an untrained dog. Too bad your granddaughter turned out like him.

Poor dog. The daugther defenetly hasnt it shit together. Kids and animals are always a weird mix because they have to learn how to treat them and somtimes kids take a while to learn not to treat Animals as toys. The granddaugther got her punishment, if it were my kid i would explainto her that the scrach is her own fault and that she has to behave the next time around the dog and that the dog acted in selfdefence. And since she already got her punishment i wouldnt punish her aditionally. I got bitten by our own dog myself about 2 or 3 times as a kid because i was an asshole to him and i totally deserve it. I really dislike people who punish the animals for normal animal behavoir and the mistakes of other.

People are ignorant idiots by default it seems. I can tell you an even worse story. My wife is a veteranarian, and at one time a man brought in a dog with the request to euthanize it because it had attacked their daughter (nor sure what her age was). They always do a full check-up before a request like this and they found multiple (around 20-25) staples hammered in the dog's skin. Some where even corroded, showing this had been going on for a while... When she confronted the man with the animal abuse, he blatantly denied it was his daughter who did it and insisted she terminate the animal "because it was dangerous". She refused and asked if he would agree with putting the animal up for adoption, luckily he agreed with that. Moral of the story, most animals will accept an insane amount of abuse from their owners and will almost never attack without good reason, even after a while...

Oh my god... That's repulsive.. Why can't we put down horrible people like that. They are far more dangerous

ask other relatives with dogs or cats even to invite your daughter and granddaughter over for tea or something and if she kicks them to and get's attacked your daughter will know your granddaughter is a brat

Keep the dog; there are plenty of bitches to go around.

I say good riddance to your daughter. Hope you have a long and happy life w/ your dog :)
