Today, I was doing a little victory jig after finally sending out the last of the invitation cards for my wedding when I realised that I had forgotten to put the date of the event on them. FML

52 'after' and 'sending' are the key words here. If they had noticed in time to write it on the envelope as you suggested then why not just start again or write it on the actual invite and simply replace the envelopes they needed to open? The invites were no longer in their possession that is the whole point.
