Today, I ordered take out, and paid with a credit card. The cute cashier gave me the receipt to sign, and under 'tip' I gave a couple of dollars. I realized that I had given too much, crossed it out, and changed it. Unaware she was watching, She then responded, "Did you just lower the tip by $1?" FML

What does it matter if she saw you do it or not? She would have seen it crossed out in a little bit anyway. It's a weird thing that you would bother to cross it out and lower it by only a dollar, seeing as how a dollar is relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but it's just weird as opposed to horrible. Plus, it was only take out, people don't normally tip on take out at all so if I were her, I'd feel grateful to have even gotten a couple dollars.

I think what he means is that he wants the waiter to make the night good by providing good service and that they should have to work for a big tip and not just expect it

Haha, don't go there again, you'll have you food spit into.

I would have crossed it out and put zero.

He is not a cheap ass you are supposed to give 15% of the cost or more for a tip and maybe he put extra and he does not have a lot left so he took it away.

I never tip on take out. If I am not being waited on or otherwise helped, I do not tip. The only person who should take credit for my meal is the cook, who would not receive any of the tips anyway...

181- actually in most restaurants the cooks and kitchen staff do get a share of the tips. and any meal, including take out, that doesn't have tips left for it, costs the servers tips. 4-5% of the tip goes towards the cost of the food, so if no tip is left, they have to pay out of their tips towards it.

I'm pretty sure if they make less than minimum wage the employer has to supplement the rest? Atleast that's what I read while on break at work.

Where I live, they make minimum and tips are bonuses. I usually tip anyways unless I got bad service. My sister is a waitress and she makes more than I do per hour before tips.

Most waiters / delivery drivers etc get paid minimum wage and RELY on their tips to get by. If you don't tip for any reason other than the service was terrible, you're pretty much a dick. You don't know what it's like working in the food industry obviously. You can always tell who has or hasn't by how appreciative someone is.

3, you're not a king so don't expect to be treated like one. The only kind of special treatment you'll be getting is the one with quotation marks around it

I am a waitress in Georgia, and here I get paid 2.15 an hour, and 100% of that goes to pay my taxes. If my table doesn't tip me, I essentially have to pay to do my job.

bullshit, people do tip on take-out. you should tip on take out. if you have ever worked at a restaurant you would know that taking and wrapping up to-go orders is a big pain in the ass and it takes you away from your tables which are tipping you more. So you should tip a few bucks. you don't need to tip 20% but at least give $3-5.

it isn't being cheap if you're saving money you don't have. Sure, the likelihood of OP not having the extra dollar is probably low, but it's not an impossible scenario.

1 dollar...are you kidding me...? won't say anything racist but you know what i'm thinking

I agree it was only $1, but they only make minimum wage after all.

Erm, am I the only one that finds this neither funny nor an FML?

now that you look at it.....

#9 I like your picture. OP, that was sorta cheap. once you made the mistake of writing the wrong number, you shouldn't have change it.

no you're not # 9... what were you gonna do with the $1 that made you lower the tip??? that's just cheapassing... and I hate cheap people...

i was a waitress for 4 years. when i order take out i always tip even if just a little bit -take out isnt like you are waited on hand and foot. AND every minimum wage job has a tip jar this day. as a professional she shouldnt be commenting to you on how you tip. if youre eating out, tip 15-20%. picking up, a couple bucks is sufficient. but commenting on it was inappropriate on her part.
