But OP was never released from anything. Hooking up with someone is not the same thing as starting a relationship. If it were, the term "friends with benefits" wouldn't exist. What happened to OP must have hurt pretty badly, but not nearly as much as it would if he had lied and just kept using her for sex. At least he told the truth.

Did you express interest in it becoming something more only after hooking up? It sucks, but it sounds like he was just looking for a hook up and nothing more. If you wanted more from the beginning and thought that hooking up was the way to get it, YDI.
