I just hope it wasn't your first facebook friend request ever. Because as sad as actually caring about that sort of thing is, caring and have no friends on it is slightly worse. And much more depressing.

Add him/her anyway. Just because he/she said to ignore it doesn't mean you have to. Add them, and post something on their wall like, "Hey I know you said to ignore the friend request, but I figure you can never have too many friends!"

Sooo...maybe if you got more friends in real life, you'd get more friend requests on Facebook. Besides, I agree, since when is Facebook a popularity contest?
