I'm no vegan, nor a fan of pet fish, so I'll spare myself the flames and stay out of the animal rights movement here. My guess is that the new roommate said what she said with the intention of freaking OP out through an indirect threat. As a way of saying 'Stay the **** out of my way,' and/or 'I really don't give a shit about your fish.' I could of course be wrong but, that's just my two cents.
