Today, I decided to give blood for the second time. I felt excrutiating pain when she stuck the needle in my arm. Another nurse came running over in a panic. Apparently my inexperienced nurse had put it in my tendon instead of my vein. FML

OH! Man, I hope you're ok. How the hell do you mistake a tendon for a vein? Veins are clearly a very different color from tendons. If you have dark skin or your veins aren't that visible then I can understand a bit better. Like I said, I hope you're ok and you don't have to go through something like this again. Hope this doesn't stop you from donating blood again in the future. Try asking for a more experienced nurse next time. I believe you can do that in most places.

your so vein (joke, for any of you idiots that'll see it and immediately critique every part of this)

Lol that sucks Why would someone deserve this?

ouch! that sucks... I once had a nurse INSIST that she take the blood from my right arm, even though I have a very good, reliable vein in my left arm that I always give from. The ones in my right arm are pretty deep, and the biggest one has a tendency to roll around... you would think she would have gotten the idea that maybe it wasn't such a good vein to use when she had to mark where it was three separate times, but she just decided I was moving around too much (I wasn't moving at all) and stuck me there anyway. Of course she didn't hit it, and after two sticks and some seriously painful digging, she finally agreed to try the vein in my other arm. That went totally smoothly, and I filled the bag in 6 minutes. *sigh*

Oops, sorry for the double post, but, 17? I'm pretty sure that no one, no matter how grotesquely obese, accumulates much fat in the folds of their elbows. They wouldn't be able to bend their arms if they did. Some people have blood vessels that pop out and sit right under the skin, and some have veins that lie deeper in the tissue. It really doesn't have a whole lot to do with fat content. (At least in a place like the inside of the elbow.)

That's happened to my dad a few times. They kept missing the vein. Don't the people in charge of these things understand that they have to use trained nurses, otherwise the donor will lose confidence and refuse to donate again?

How do you think those experienced nurses became experienced?

that nurse's life is ****** more than yours, cus she's shitty at her job and hopefully fired.

who would click 'ydi'? That sounds so painful!! I agree with #36, blood donation banks are usually desperate for donations and want to make the expereince as comfortable as possible. If it is not, than you will not likely want to return, therefore they lose a potential donor. I hopethat doesn't happen to me! The nurse always has trouble finding my vains, i'd hate for her to one day slip up in the process of looking for it.

FYL!! Oh my GOd that must have hurt sooo bad, I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I hope you complained to the person in charge 'cause that was a very serious mistake. My brother once got a severed tendon and had to go through a whole procedure complete with operation to fix it and even now he hasn't regained full mobility. Be sure to consult a doctor and make sure that everything's fine, make the nurse/association pay for your consultation.. You might even have to sue :S

OUCH!!! that's brutal .. i would sue her ass and I'm not prone to wanting to sue people.. that's just not cool though

if this is true, you could be a made man/woman if you sue yeah? or at least a smooth few thousand dollars richer? come on now

This is one of the major reasons I don't give blood... I hate needles, and they put dumbasses in charge of drawing blood. As was said above, put skilled nurses in these positions and you'd get more donors. Yes, I know that many of the nurses are perfectly good - but as someone that is already afraid of something going wrong with needles, "many" doesn't cut it.
