Today, I applied and was accepted for a part-time network engineering position. Being contract work they asked me what I charge. I replied, "$12 an hour." After a look of surprise they accepted me for the position and said, "Our last guy charged $200 an hour, you're a bargain." FML

How do you be in a position like that and not know how much your competitors are charging?

what the hell do you do that $200/hour is an acceptable pay rate? I need to get into that field

$12/hr as a networking engineer?! Way to lowball yourself, man! I make more than that an hour, and I COOK FOOD for a living!! YDI!!!!!!

YDI for not researching your industry and location.

**** those network jerks. they should be fair and offer you at least 100$. besides if you tell them to give you more it's not like you'll get fires because you're cheap enough to keep

Why should they "be fair" and give him 8 times what he asked for? Would you "be fair" and give a restaurant $40 for a meal they charged you $5 for, even if you thought it was worth it?

You should know what to charge for your positions... YDI

A network engineer is an information technology professional who designs, implements, and troubleshoots computer networks. In general, a network engineer will not regularly perform system administration tasks, but will instead concentrate on high-level network related duties such as network architecture, network design, choosing of network devices, and network policies. I would think that they would get payed pretty highly based on this type of work and such a high demand for this type of work. hahahaha i copied and pasted this off of wikipedia LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Really? You copied and pasted this? Come on, Wikipedia knows how to spell "paid".

YDI for not knowing how much your job pays.

It's people like you who are bringing rates to ridiculous lows. I'm a freelance I.T. consultant, and after three successful years on my own, it's getting to the point that I can't make a decent living because people like you don't perform market research in order to price their work appropriately. You say, "FML," but what you're really doing is f'ing other people's lives up, as well as your own. Thanks. Perhaps you could consider this and take a little more responsibility for yourself and your colleagues in the future.

" Today, this guy came in for an interview for contract work. I was prepared to offer the position to him, even though Network Engineering can get pricey, up to $200. My boss said to hire the next guy that came in, no matter what price he gave out. The guy offered $12.00. Great, my boss hired a dumbass. FML."
