Today, at work, I was helping someone who really sounded like she had a Boston accent. So, I asked her where she was from. She has never been out of state. Turns out she has a speech impediment. FML

I worked in customer service over the phone and had a lady ask what country I was in. I told her I was from Washington state and she didn't believe me. It happens. And I don't even have a speech impediment

don't feel embarrass. I have a speech impediment due to hearing loss and people have always asked me where I'm from. Doesn't bother me one bit

#18 - You can still deduce what country Washington state is in though, no?

Good thing you asked that first.

It was probably more embarrassing for you then her just because she's used to being asked that question...

I wouldn't feel too bad. It's not like you could have known.

I'm an Aussie who apparently has a Canadian accent. I was just taught how to speak proper English when I was growing up. I don't get upset when people ask me, I just laugh it off. Don't worry OP, honest mistake.

I get asked if I'm Canadian about once a month.
"What do you mean, Buddy?"

It's okay OP. I stutter and people ask me where I'm from all the time. Some people don't believe me, but it's okay. I don't take it personally and she probably didn't as well. Don't beat yourself up.

Don't beat yourself up! While embarrassing for you, they probably don't think it's that bad to have someone mistake their speech impediment for an accent at least.

"Yeah, it's wicked pissa' confusing that you'd think I'm from Boston. Anyway, if you wanna meet up later, we could watch my favorite movie, Good Will Hunting."
