If you were doing it right then you don't need to move forward and they are merely a distraction. Or maybe they were clapping because you are bad at parking... hard to know whether this is YDI or FYL.

Depending where in Oregon it wouldn't be the op's fault. A lot of areas in Oregon don't teach you how to parallel park.

My Uncle's wife has a car with a parallel park button. Does all the work for her. Buy a car like that and you can clap with them next time. That'll freak them out!
