Today, I took my 12 year-old to the orthodontist. While I was talking to the dentist about what was needing to be done, my daughter listened. With a straight face, the dentist joked, "Yeah, we're going to need to rip off her entire jaw." My daughter won't leave her room anymore. FML

Poor little girl, you really can't blame her, I would hide too and there would be lots of crying involved

Surely a 12 year old would have the common sense to know it's a joke?

That's what I was thinking. It's not like she's a very small child.

I'm not one to say this lightly, but... lawsuit, anyone?

Yep, he made a joke. That's a serious offense. People say things without thinking them through all the time. It's no big deal.

Find another orthodontist.

How awful and unprofessional of him!

Orthodontists can't joke ever because it's unprofessional. Seriously, if my orthodontist made a joke like that when I needed to get braces, I probably would have found it funny.
