Today, my estranged mother texted me saying, "Gran died, LOL." My grandmother and I were fairly close, so I was shocked and disgusted. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and asked if she knew what "LOL" meant. She did. FML

A lot of people think it means Lots of Love. When you asked if she knew what it meant, did you check on *what* she thought it meant?

This is how I thinked it happened. OP's Mom: Gran died, LOL. OP: LOL? Do you even know what that means? OP's Mom: Yes, I do. And OP didn't ask any further questions. OP probably assumed that her mom knew what LOL meant, and therefore made this FML, even if she was unknowingly incorrect.

My taking of it is that she asked if she knew it meant laugh out loud, and her mother said she did. And that FML only gives you a certain amount of space, so she had to shorten it down?
