Today, I confided to my dad that since the recent breakup with my boyfriend of 3 months, I feel down all the time and life doesn't feel worth living anymore. His loving advice was for me to "grow the fuck up and get your sentimental head out of la-la land." FML

I agree with dad. Grow up. and if you're still a teenager, get over yourself, you'll find out soon enough the world doesn't end with every dumbass little boyfriend and that the world doesn't revolve around you. I hope you find true love some day.

solid advice. still, sorry you're feeling broken-hearted OP. Your Dad could have phrased his advice a lot better. There's a kernel of wisdom there though. If you live and breathe Hollywood film & TV drama then you can start to transplant those emotions on to your own life. Your Dad is just trying to shock you out of what he probably thinks is a self-absorbed existence. You should keep an open mind. He's been around a lot longer. Maybe he's right? Feel better OP.

I get that breakups hurt, especially when they're ones you didn't want or see coming, but your reaction is a little strong. 3 months into my relationship with my boyfriend we were still at the "are we official yet?" stage so calling him your boyfriend seems a bit premature anyway. Unless you're in school, in which case believe me when I say there will be many, many more guys and not all of them will be dicks. Most, but not all.
