Kids will be kids

Today, my 14 year-old got a 5-day suspension for fighting. He stood up for an 7th grader who was getting picked on. While the poor kid was eating lunch, they were messing with him when my son stepped in. There were some words said, then a fight. He feels terrible for fighting but I think he was in the right. FML

Be proud of your kid. I am even if I don't know him. Also, kudos to you for raising a child who stands for the weak.

A couple of my kids got suspended for fighting doing the same thing, I didn’t punish them and said right in front of the principal that I was proud of them.

That kid deserves a 5 day fest of fun and excitement for doing what is right. Screw the school for punishing him.

Buy that kid a pizza and tell him you’re proud of him. You’re raising him right.

Stand up for the right to defend yourself and others. Fight the school, call the news. This is not a law this is schools trying to avoid being outed for allowing bullies to exist.

I wish someone did something like that for me when I was in school. Bullying can ruin someone's life, and your son stepping in may have just saved that other child. You have raised a great young man.

Then go to bat for him with the school. Our child was going to be suspended for fighting for standing up for a smaller kid. The bully shoved my son into the wall and held him there. My son told him 2x, "Get your hands off me." Then 2x "Let me go or I'm going to punch you. And he did. They were going to suspend him for a week. We talked to the school, they watched the video. My son got a 1 day suspension and the other kid a week. We allowed it because even in the real world, if you get in a fight, you still might spend a night in jail while the police sort it out, even if it's self-drfence.

Sounds like the administration is just trying to cover their own butt. They probably don't want to appear to support vigilante justice, by giving your kids a pass. Though it would be an interesting social experiment to have school policy be "it's okay to defend other even if it means escalating to fisticuffs". Hopefully the bullies learned their lesson. Pretty cool reason to get suspended regardless.

I would ask what about the bully? What happened to him? I thought there was a no tolerance for bullying. Oh and explain to your son he did the right thing
