Today, my boyfriend and I exchanged promise rings. I promised that I would stay committed to him and that he was the only one for me. He promised that he would stop seeing other woman behind my back. He wasn't kidding. FML

Today, my boyfriend told me he's prepared to commit to marriage, but only if I buy my own ring and tell everyone he surprised me with it. FML

She looked me in the eye and dumped me on the spot. Apparently, promise rings are for teenagers, not couples in their thirties. FML
Today, as a 1 year anniversary present, my boyfriend let me see and wear my engagement ring. He then made me give it back at the end of the day. FML
Today, my girlfriend of 3 years confessed that at first, she'd only dated me to get her friend jealous, and that even now, she "only kind of liked" me. I bought a ring only a few days ago, and was planning on proposing to her. FML
Today, my boyfriend of four years proposed to me and I said yes. A few hours later, I found out he's been talking to multiple other girls for about three months. FML
Today, my boyfriend's mom bought us matching purity rings. FML

My brother gave his Ex-GF a promise ring and had no intention of staying with his Ex. It is sad but some guys just view it as a way to get a girl to stop talking about commitment until he finds a new girl.

So can anyone tell me where promise rings are exchanged? I've heard of them on the internet but never seen one or heard of anyone in my area getting one. It seems like a stupid fake pre-engagement to me, but is it really popular outside of the northeast?

@54 yes, but if you're under 16 you are wayyyyyyyy to young to be promising anything to a boyfriend/girlfriend. promise rings should just not happen. ever.
