You did good thing for a loved one at the right time, but that doesn't entitle you to a lifelong relationship with her. I know this sounds harsh, but these are two totally independent issues. Be happy you helped her, and try to accept the separation. Deducing not to do any more good things because of that experience would be a wrong deduction.
