Bit my ass

Today, it's been many years since I criticised my sister for homeschooling her kids instead of sending them to a normal school. Now all three of her kids are at university in science courses. My two sons graduated high school still struggling to read or spell, and don’t have the grades for college. FML

You didn't notice that your kids couldn't read, write or spell? I wish to gods I could think you are joking.

just because they're in college doesn't mean they're well adjusted and just because you sent your kids to public school doesn't mean you don't have to make sure it's a good public school or they actually attend occasionally

Between 6 and 10 percent of kids in the is are homeschooled. I always heard about the idea that they need to go to normal school to fit in idea. That doesn't make sense for a lot of reasons. The first is that school is not s reflection of the real world. Kids didn't go to school for thousands of years but still seemed to do ok socially. Also school is a terrible environment. Constant swearing, sexual harassment and bullying that seems to be ignored. Then once you graduate you are supposed to leave all that behind and act professional or be called in to talk to HR. It doesn't make sense.

Seems like you should have sent your sons to your sister instead...

Humble pie tastes pretty crappy, doesn't it?

A lot of it has to do with the teacher(s) and the kids' willingness to learn and retain information. Maybe your sister's kids were better at school and actually cared. In public school, where your kids went, there was probably something more interesting going on that took their attention away from their schoolwork. But honestly, there's no excuse for them graduating and not knowing how to read, write, or spell. We don't live in the 1800s.
