Baby come back
Today, I got back from a two-week vacation. During my vacation, I had a friend from work watch my puppy. My puppy now likes him more than me, and won't stop whining sadly since he left. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I just got back from a two week vacation. I live with six people and only the dog was happy to see me. FML
Today, my neighbour's puppy has developed separation anxiety. Every time my neighbour leaves for work, the puppy constantly whines and barks until he gets home. He works night shifts. FML
Today, I'm sick of watching my friend's dog while she is on vacation. In four days, the dog has shredded my mattress, peed on my couches, chewed my kitchen chairs, and attacked my dog while she slept. My friend won't answer her phone, but she does update Facebook non-stop. Ten days to go. FML
Today, I came home from a two-week overseas business trip. My wife was at work, but she came home for lunch. When she came in, she brushed right past me to hug and talk to her dog. When I mentioned it, she said, "But I haven't seen him all day!" FML
Today, I returned home from a three-week vacation. None of my friends realized I'd been gone. FML
Today, as usual, my neighbor's 9 year-old son came over after school. I work from home so he stays until his mom gets home. My dog mopes around the house until 3 p.m., then gets all excited because he has a friend to play with. I'm almost jealous because a dog I've had for 11 years likes him more than me. FML
Today, I came to visit a friend I haven't seen in 3 years for a fun 2 month vacation of you know what. She has 2 more dogs now and soon as I stepped in her place after flying across the country, there were 2 piles if dog crap on the ground. I already want to fly out of here, and this is only day one. FML
Today, I had to buy more supplies for the cat my friend asked me to pet sit for 2 weeks. Her 2-week vacation ended over 3 years ago. FML
Today, my cousin is coming home after his honeymoon. His gift to his new wife was a puppy, which I said I would take care of while they went away. I sneezed last week and scared the puppy. She ran off. This was ten days ago, and I still haven't found the dog. FML
Today, a friend came to visit me from across the U.S. We spent the majority of the time she was here standing in the rain, at the dog park 20 miles from my house, so she could "make sure her baby poops on time". Basically, I took time off to watch my friend's dog take 6 craps. FML

A lot of pups have bonding periods. Could have bonded with your friend. Give it some time to build trust and bond with you.

learn to be like your friend.

I'm sorry dude but you're a bit of an idiot for buying a puppy when you had a vacation panned, or going on a vacation after buying a puppy. It's the part of their life where they bond with their masters the most. FYL because your dog is going to miss your pal all the time, but YDI.

Technically speaking a dog is a puppy for 2-3 years. I find it a little unreasonable to expect someone to not vacation in that amount of time if they're capable of it. We don't know the age of OP's pup, so we really can't make these assumptions, now can we?

Agreed! Dogs require lots and lots of love. Once my family got a new puppy, we did not take a family vacation for around a year or two. We did travel, of course, but someone from the family always stayed behind so that the puppy bonded with someone from the family. Our situation was different, though. We had another dog to accompany the pup and were a lot more people to care and love them. It sounds like OP lives alone and that's an especially hard situation to raise a puppy in :/

#47 It's selfish. Why get a dog if you don't intend to spend time with it? Large dogs live 15 years max little dogs aprox 20. I don't think it's terribly unreasonable, considering the human lifespan is much longer, to put two years aside to properly bond with your pup. By the first 6 months your pup is roughly a 13 yr old hormonal child. Rounding the two year mark they are like a rebelious young adult. After that they settle down a bit and the aging slows.

75, you're missing the point. If you're going to bring a dog home, wait at least a few weeks to leave the house for an extended period of time. Dogs require bonding, schedules, boundaries, etc. It's much more than just feeding it and letting it into the yard occasionally to relieve itself. If you bring a dog home and soon after go on vacation, you haven't yet established yourself as the primary caregiver or owner of that dog.

He probably had a lot of fun during those two weeks and misses his new friend. Give your puppy lots of love and attention and play with your puppy as much as possible. He'll come around again, don't take it to heart. At least you know he was well taken care of. I can just imagine how irritating constant whining could be after a while. It's kind of cute though how much your puppy bonded with your friend.

Is your friends name Patrick? Does he have a cookie in his pocket?

Even your puppy knows he shouldn't be friendzoned.

Not very clever to make someone else watch him that Young..

Maybe because it's a puppy? You shouldn't leave puppies, let alone go on holiday for 2 weeks and leave it. It's basically a baby, and it'd just assume that your friend is it's new owner/parent.
