Accident waiting to happen

Today, after my husband bought our son a sword for Xmas, sure enough, I found a stab mark in my living room wallpaper, and the sword now has a bent tip. My son denies everything and my husband claims I’m overreacting by yelling. FML
I agree, your life sucks 473

Could be worse... My teenage son was into martial arts and wanted a sword. Long story short, we wound up in the ER on Christmas Day when he gave himself an accidental minor cut on the thigh that got stitches. I was afraid they'd report me to Child Protective Services when they asked how he got it and I told them he cut himself with a sword... Swords and knives are not toys. They require training and safety. OP, get your son some mats and a holder to practice on outside - or at least some big cardboard boxes... Most boys are not quite like girls. They tend to be drawn to things that give them a feeling of power or identifying with their movie heros. Testosterone has a real effect.

It's likely it's not even legal to have such a sword in your residence. Tell your husband he has to return it, or you will involve the authorities (take pics of the hole in the wallpaper). Your son and husband both showed they are not competent being around such a deadly weapon. Your son is untrained and can't wield it, and your husband is too lackadaisical. What if it was you who got stabbed instead of the wallpaper? (Obviously, accidentally.)

Legality depends on where you live. In most parts of the USA it’s perfectly legal to own a sword. You might not be able to go out of the home with a real sword on your hip, but at home is a different matter… Oddly enough, switchblade knives are more controlled in most US states than swords. By its nature, a sword is not a concealed weapon except for sword canes which are illegal in certain states. The carrying of a concealed weapon in the USA is a bigger deal than clearly visible weapons.
