Today, my wife asked our 17 year-old son to clean his room. Following up, he lied to his mom and said it was clean. After rechecking his room, he began to throw things and I returned to find holes punched in the walls. I went and patched the holes, after which he immediately kicked more holes. FML

He either needs therapy, or an ass-whooping. Figure out which one it is, and then start doing some goddamn parenting.

You’ve raised a delinquent without a sense of decency, empathy, discipline, respect or responsibility, but a selfish spoilt and entitled brat with a reckless disregard for others and you don’t have a clue how to fix your failure as a parent. If your kid behaves like this in response to a reasonable simple task, how will they fare in a work environment? What acts of violence will they commit when they don’t get their way? What cruelty will their potential partners suffer? Seek help immediately or else whatever comes next is your fault

Ass whooping is more fun. Followed by a quick kick out of the house to find their own way.

You missed the parenting boat. It left on day 1, when he was born. Look, I've made a shit-ton of mistakes raising my kids. But I disciplined my kids and taught them respect for their and others property. I was consistent even if it was consistently wrong according to today's mamby-pamby gentle parenting. Dude, YDI for whatever the f you did wrong. Try some tough love and pray it is enough (I doubt it).

I guess when he shoots up the school in anger, they know who gave him the weapon. But then I’m sure they’d want him proficient in weaponry as that’s the goal of the school, correct? Deadly soldiers?

Just let him live with his holes until he learns his lesson, and don't replace the things he throws unless it's necessary for his school or something like this. And go get some help.
