Today, I received a few new fish for my aquarium as presents for my birthday. It just so happened that these fish were carrying diseases that left me with a tank full of dead fish. Happy birthday. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, two of my daughter's fish died after owning them for a year. Yesterday I spent $400 on a new bigger fish tank so that they would be happier. I built the stand, set it up, and got everything running. All I had to do was let it run for a week so that the pH would be fine for them, and then move them across. FML
Today, I found my brand new tropical fish dead in its tank because my boyfriend got drunk last night and decided to pour red wine into the aquarium. FML
Today, I woke up and checked my fish tank. I thought the temperature was too low, so half asleep, I turned it up. Now all my fish are dead. FML
Today, my favorite fish died. To make things better my parents thought to take me out to dinner. We ate sushi. FML
Today, I came home to my boyfriend emptying his bowels into my aquarium. FML
Today, my sister presented me with an "official pet killer" award after yet another goldfish under my care died of unknown causes. FML
Today, my mom was criticizing how I can't handle taking care of any living thing because I'm too irresponsible. We had a huge argument so I went back to my apartment, only to find that my fish had died. I forgot I had a fish. FML
Today, I bought a new Siamese Fighting Fish. I was so happy with my new fish so I bought him an expensive lovely bowl, some weeds, and a toy for the bowl. I left the room to get the fish food. When I returned, the fish was gone, and the cat was sitting on the table. FML
Today, my 5 year old fish died. As I was flushing him, he started swimming again. FML
Today, I came home after having traveled abroad for the last two months. Before I left, I'd asked my dad to take care of my fish, and he promised they'd be safe with him. I found them all decomposing. FML

If she is able to prove the new fish had a disease and they were bought through a reputable store they will help her replace the old fish. Maybe not free fish but a possible discount for them might be helpful.

Most places will replace or refund fresh water fish within a certain period of time. I have never found a place that will do this for salt water fish.

Often diseases are contracted during transportation or while introducing fish into new water. But if a store had a batch of fish that all died or became sick, and customer keeps all the fish that died and receipt, store will normally replace all dead fish from the tank. Store will almost always replace the fish you bought that died within 7 days. This applies only for freshwater. Salt water fish and invertebrates like snails and lobsters rarely have guarantees.
