Today, I found out the truth about my and my siblings adoptions and why I have no contact with any extended family. Turns out our parents are half-siblings, who decided to adopt rather than risk any genetic anomalies. Their families didn’t approve of the relationship so they moved us far away. FML

OK for anyone that says OP deserved it.. WTAF is WRONG with you? How can any child be responsible or at fault for what their parents chose? OP, I'm sorry you were ostracized for your parents choices. The circumstances are.. tichy at best but at least they were responsible enough to avoid creating progeny that would have had some negative issues due to DNA. Create your own family any way you want. They do not have to be adoptive or genetic, just those you feel a kinship with. And good luck! =)

your confused. they said they know they are adopted and this commenter is just pointing out that their adopted extended family are strangers just like their blood exceeded family. the only difference is genetics. they are saying that family are normally strangers either way.

You don't know who your true extended family is. Who you think is your family is actually a bunch of strangers. In contrast to a real extended family which is a bunch of strangers who have some genetic material like yours.
