Who told you that? You have my sympathies.
Good news; most young kids can be reasoned, and if they are told that their neighbor cannot stand loud noises because they are autistic, they will tone it down. Mostly.
I really hate how they merged Aspergers in with autism. It’s now blurred the lines and has given many people an excuse for their behavior (I was diagnosed with Asperger’s 20 years ago) but it doesn’t mean you can’t learn to adapt to the rest of the world. Get some cheap sound canceling headphones and drown them out with music. Whatever calms you. C’mon, i’m betting you are super smart! Figure out a solution and tackle it like you do any problem that needs an answer, but it’s not an excuse to bitch. I’ve not only adapted (and i’m sensitive to sounds too) but there’s a solution. If you don’t see it, try harder to find one. You got this! And no using it as a crutch anymore! Many others (like me) are affected by this and manage to be successful in life, figure it out and you can do anything!
I had to go through that about 3 years ago when I was living in Virginia (ironically, also in Phoenix now). I am also autistic, and likewise sensitive to young children screaming. In close proximity, it is an express train to hard shutdown. As you have an ADA-recognized disability, you do have some legal rights and can, in fact, enforce accommodations from your neighbors.
I’m autistic and if I can learn to adjust to people banging against the wall for THAT by using noise cancelling ear plugs (this is what vibrate on our phones is for) will help or noise cancelling headphones with music helps too. If you live by yourself in a home, by all means blare the music a bit, no headphones. Just don’t have the music too loud. Sorry but OP didn’t post if it was an apartment, condo, townhome, duplex or single family unit.
