Today, to cheer my girlfriend up after her mother died a week ago, I took her to a comedy club. The comedian's theme for the night happened to be mother-daughter relationships. FML

Today, I went to a comedy show, expecting to feel better about a difficult relationship. Instead, I saw a performance written by the girl who loves my husband, about my husband, and how she loves him. FML

Today, I went to a comedy show with my mom, and they asked the audience members to yell out their problems as ideas for an improv skit. My mom yelled, "My daughter can't get a boyfriend!" FML

Today, after breaking up with my boyfriend, some of my friends decided to take me to a comedy club for a girls night. My friend's jealous husband decided he had to come along, then decided to invite my other friends' boyfriends. I ended up being the seventh wheel on a night meant to cheer me up. FML

Today, I was feeling down so my husband took me to a comedy show. This comedian saw me, heckled me for a full two minutes, then returned to me a further three times during his act to mock me again, zeroing in on every one of my insecurities until I left crying, feeling worse than ever. FML

Today, I bought my girlfriend two tickets to a Broadway show that was coming through town she really wanted to see. I couldn't attend with her due to work so she said she would take her mom. I found out later she took her ex. Now they're back together, and I paid for the date that made it happen. FML

Today, while I was on a date, I noticed my ex-boyfriend in the restaurant, and he looked sad. So I walked over to see him and jokingly said, "You look like your mom died or something!" She had. FML

Today, while I was working my shift at the store, my girlfriend appeared and asked to talk to me. Once we were alone, she burst into tears and started sobbing. Turns out someone's dad died in her favorite TV show and she wanted some comfort. FML

wow you're really dumb to have tried to cheer someone up after a loved one dies. oh yeah! it's like : it's okay, honey. now you have fewer gifts to buy at the holidays and birthdays. and no more mothers day! how 'bout that hon! no more bitching about me either! now we can live in peace for once! good way to be an insensitive jerk.

It happens my husband took me to the movies to help me cheer up after the news of my grandpa getting worse. He had cancer for 10 years then we get news that both kidneys failed and if the treatment worked it would get it would just buy him more time, if it didn't he would be dead within three days. This was also, three days before Christmas. The movie we saw I am Legend. He (my grandpa) lived through that only to die peaceful right before bed months later.

It was a nice thought, you had no control over the comedian. It might be too early for her to really enjoy going out, but let her know you're there for her... If she likes to cuddle, don't complain; make her a nice dinner, help with cleaning the house... Depending on what she is like, you might want to try that instead of rushing her back into public places.

people that are saying a week was too soon...do you honestly think it would be better for her to sit at home & have not much else to do, besides think about her mother passing? i'm sure that if she didn't want to go, she could have said something, & it would have been understandable.
