Op here, okay my wife's mother died 2 weeks beforehand and my mom thought it would be funny to make a joke out of it. So yes the punch was for sure justified. I haven't spoke to my mom since and I'm happily married with my wife.

I'd hit her too if she took things too far. At least you know your wife is a real mother ****** who can handle her shit
#53, by the sounds of this it's OP's mother who is childish and has had whatever was happening going on for a while, and his wife finally got tired of her shit and put her in her place.
My FIL is a little bitch like this, I have been nothing but polite and treat him with respect and while my husband isn't in the room says the most horrid stuff, bitch etc, hubby said I was over reacting for years until he caught him once, very snarky in rude. That god they moved from Australia to the Canary Islands lol
That sounds like something my wife would do
At least someone can stand up to her. Who better than your wife? You did say she was being rude
Domestic violence is not ok. Unless your mother was physically attacking her, your wife needs to learn to use her words. This whole concept of, if someone says something you don't like its ok to assault them is crazy. It's never ok.
what if she has been doing this for years? Maybe bringing the wife's family or their kids into the insulting also. No one wants problems with family of any sort but one person can only handle so much abuse before they snap. Talking this out is probably something she tried more than once. I highly doubt she just hit her MIL after one rude comment. I've never hit anyone in my life. But I do think sometimes it's the only way to get people to have a reality check.

If you say finally, I'd say you deserve it. Since it sounds like you think it's about time!
