Judaism is the religion, it is like saying if you believe in Christianity you are a Christian, or if you believe in Islam you are a Muslim. If you believe in Judaism you are a Jew. The part that confuses some is that anybody from Israel and has ancestors who were native to that area (other areas around Israel as well, ie. Jordan or Palestine) and believed in Judaism is of the Jewish race.

I live in a very Jewish area and dated a few Jews. The question is if they're a practicing Jew, meaning if they still believe in Judaism, do the high holidays etc. But it is also considered a race. I've dated two diff guys who considered themselves half Jewish because one parent was Jewish and the other was not. Jews/Jewish is the race of ppl. judaism is a religion that most Jews practice.
