Today in class I accidentally called my teacher very old and almost dead. As we were discussing a book I said that the book character is very old and close to death since it fitted to the context. Turns out this character is one year younger than my teacher and she wasn't amused. FML

Age and mortality aren’t that closely related these days. There are people in their 40s at death’s door and others who are vibrant in their 80s.

If your teacher were that close to death, she would have retired.

Your teacher has some major hang ups about her age. But don't let it bother you. It won't be long before she's so old, she'll forget you said it, and then not long after that, she'll be dead, and you'll be in the clear.

To the young someone aged 45 can be deemed old. If your teacher is too sensitive and cannot take the context then they are probably in the wrong job.
