Age and mortality aren’t that closely related these days. There are people in their 40s at death’s door and others who are vibrant in their 80s. If your teacher were that close to death, she would have retired.
Your teacher has some major hang ups about her age. But don't let it bother you. It won't be long before she's so old, she'll forget you said it, and then not long after that, she'll be dead, and you'll be in the clear.
