Today, I went to visit some family out of state for my niece's birthday. I couldn't think of what to get an 8-year-old so I got her a Barbie doll. Everyone else got her money, iPods, game consoles, etc. When she got to mine she asked "how do I turn it on?" Then threw it away when she couldn't. FML

Today, I found an old toy that I gave to my daughter several years ago. It was still unopened, and long forgotten, so I decided to re-gift it to one of my friend's children. My daughter immediately remembered her "favorite" toy and started crying inconsolably. FML

Today, my son turned 8. We watched as he unwrapped a $55 Nerf gun, extra 'bullets', new shoes and a school bag with his favorite TV character on the front and a action figure inside. As he finished he looked me straight in the eyes and says, "That's great ma, but seriously what'd you get me?". FML

Today, my 14 year-old daughter is so selfish that on her sister's birthday, she found the present, assumed it must be for her, opened it, then destroyed it when she saw it was frozen Anna and Elsa dolls because she hates Frozen. Her sister loves Frozen, and hasn’t stopped crying over Anna’s severed head. FML

Today, my daughter had a meltdown when I told her I donated some of her old toys to Goodwill. It turns out Toy Story has taught her that toys have feelings and that she has a meaningful relationship with them. She's in her teens. FML

Today, my mom was feeling down, so I decided to buy her a gift. Knowing she likes lighthouses, I bought her a tiny one that plugs in and lights up. I brought it home, plugged it in, and when she saw me with it, she said, "Wipe that smirk off your face and get that junk out of here." FML

She probably would have had Nintendo 64, Pokemon cards, tamagotchi, etc...all those things that the previous generation hated and called kids "spoiled" and "bratty" for having.

I actually had those things but it was for xmas various years and even then I told my parents not to get me extra stuff since we didn't have a lot of cash when I was growing up and I knew we had to eat and pay bills but they still got me extra stuff

Damn, at her age I had toys, and I went outside and had a life. I'm sure she's going to ask for more stuff from your relatives OP, and become a spoiled brat. Whatever you do, don't gift her anything. If she doesn't appreciate that affection you had for her, than forget it. What matters is you at least went to that party for her. It's alright, you're a good person. I suggest you don't get anything for her, next time. Instead she'll demand for toys. I will make sure my children or my nephews/nieces aren't spoiled.
