Don't try to pass another one off as that one, the markings aren't always the same and hamsters can behave veeeeeery differently. I've had many throughout my life and some just don't like being handled, so the odds of getting one just like the one your dog ate are not good.

Just get him a new one that looks like the old one (as close as you can get), and don't say anything unless your friend asks about it.

i was laughing so hard...but i do feel bad. if it were me, i'd just try to get another one and if they could tell by the way the hamster acted that it wasn't the same, i'd then fess up...
