Why is everyone clicking YDI? Those people are stupid. You don't deserve to get assaulted for not paying attention. If he wants to get your attention, he can slam his hand on your desk, yell your name, ask you a random question about the lecture... ANYTHING other than THROW SOMETHING AT YOUR HEAD! Report him to the principal!

I say file a report for assault. Sure you should pay attention in class, but having metal object thrown at your face is NOT an adequate punishment for not paying attention.
