Today, I took my girlfriend out to a fancy restaurant for her birthday. I'd arranged beforehand for some of the staff to come out and sing happy birthday to her, but it all backfired when she started panicking and had a serious anxiety attack from all the attention. FML

At least you did something special for her birthday. Sorry it had to go wrong.

Obviously she knew it was for her birthday, don't you think?

Wow that sucks I'm sorry OP. I really feel sorry for her though. I have really bad social anxiety so I know where she is coming from. I would have freaked out too.

Don't blame yourself in any way, how were you suppose to know that was going to happen

I'm with you he was just trying to be sweet everyone act's as if the anxiety attack was his plan

Atleast you know she`s not an attention *****?

So enjoying being sung happy birthday in a restaurant constitutes being an "attention *****"... Interesting.

Sorry, looking bad I realized my comment was stupid..

I forgive you, but it's not up to me. I'm forced to leave it to the almighty FML gods to decide your fate...

It's the gesture that counts, hopefully she'll realize that OP!

Better a "failed" attempt than no-attempt.. anyway, eventually she will understand your good intention, I hope so

I think it's fine when when somebody takes the time to plan that. Even if it's only to get them to laugh

Hey it's the thought that counts OP.

That's a fine gesture hope the rest of the day went well

I'm wonder had she ever mentioned trouble with anxiety or hating surprises? Nice gesture, but if you 2 had been together a for a fair amount of time there had to have been signs that surprising her was a bad idea. This depending on the circumstances could be a YDI especially if she mentioned being uncomfortable with stuff like this and you figured " well it's nice, how could she not like it".

I'd worry about her graduation speech!

Well only valedictorian gets that right? most people aren't valedictorian so the odds are probably pretty low objectively.
