Today, I had an old man yell in my face because the boxes in our store only had Spanish words on them. I spent 15 minutes apologizing and trying to explain that the English was on the back side. He stormed out before I could even show him. FML

Today, a customer came in who only spoke Spanish. I speak Spanish rather well so I helped the customer. She ended up buying $2300 worth of stuff. I got written up because not speaking English apparently "has the potential be offensive to other customers if they are not able to understand you." FML
Today, a client came in and was struggling to speak properly. He said, “Sorry, no good English” so I offered a Spanish speaking colleague who could assist. He frowned and said he was from Greece. He threw a fit and got my manager involved. I got a write up and have to do an online sensitivity training. FML
Today, at my store, I had an old man violently accuse me of charging him for an extra pack of 99¢ Mounds candy yesterday. He held up my line for 10 minutes, fighting me about it. I didn't even work yesterday. FML
Today, my manager cussed me out for being unable to keep a customer happy. That "customer" was a senile old twit who had wandered away from his carer, thought our shop was his living room, and demanded to know who replaced all his furniture. FML
Today, I was unable to communicate with a customer who only spoke French. As a result, my boss called me a "monolingual idiot." I speak Spanish, German, and Japanese. FML
Today, a would-be customer practically kicked my store door in, then got pissed and started throwing around insults after I told him that we were still closed, hence the closed sign. He claimed the sign was "confusing". FML
Today, I got yelled at by a man for not opening my store 10-15 minutes before the scheduled opening time, which made his 84-year-old wife shit her pants waiting to get in. It didn't matter when I explained I had no way to know she needed to use the restroom. FML
Today, I got yelled at for providing horrible customer service, in a store I don't even work for. FML
Today, a customer yelled at me so furiously that she sprayed my face with spittle. I had to stand there, smiling and politely explaining that I needed to see a receipt before I could give her a refund. When she finally gave up and left, my boss bitched me out for "provoking the customer". FML
Today, I was ringing up a lady’s items; two shoeboxes. Per policy, I’m supposed to open them. She heavily insisted I didn’t. I ignored her and found other merchandise inside. She then went on a rant on how "people should mind their own fucking business" and stormed out of the store without buying. FML

I applaud your patience, but that guy had no interest in what you had to say. Older folks in border states tend to be extremely bitter about ANY reminders of the local immigrants. One time a guy ranted at me for 5 min straight about the Spanish side of a box after he had ALREADY READ the English side. He was just offended that the Spanish was there at all. "The hell is this gobbledygook all over the side, why the hell should I have to look at it?! I'm an American goddammit, DO I LOOK LIKE I SPEAK TACO??!!!"

As an American, you would think he understood that Spanish is a main language for many territories that belong to the US, as well as, there are more to the America's than the US. People like that are just genuinely jerks and ignorant. Instead of apologizing should have shown him a map..

Just like a mexican doesn't want to come into a store and try and read something in english I don't want to come into a store and try and read something in spanish on a product I'm trying to find. Part of the product should of had the english part forward and the other part should of had the spanish part forward. And for all you saying "I'm not surprised this happened in Texas" Not all Texans are racist but you don't understand how it feels to have yourself surrounded by people most likely here illegally and squawking at you in a different language expecting you to understand them because how dare I not understand their foreign language in MY country?! If you are going to move to another country learn the language of that country! Just like if I move to Italy I would learn italian or if I moved to France I would learn french. Don't move to another country and expect them to learn your language.

I don't blame him. Spanish is an ugly language, IMO. So just the fact that it's on there at all ruins it, regardless if english is on there or not.
