Today, I bought an eye mask to help me sleep during the day, as I work night shifts. Upon waking up after my first time using it, I forgot I was wearing it and thought I had gone blind, causing me to fall out of the bed and split my head open on my bedside table. FML

I know that sounds really bad, but hey at least you aren't really blind!

When I wake up blind, I generally rub my eyes before I jump out of bed all panicked. It usually solves the problem.

I use these things and never think I've gone blind. Maybe because you can't even open your eyes until you remove it? Your eyelids don't spontaneously glue themselves shut when you're blind..

I thought blind people see whiteish not dark but i guess we really don't know unless you ask a blink person who once had sight.

But they might not be same level of blindness...

Hey!! I did that too! 'Cept I never split my head open, that is just unfortunate for you, but maybe next time you are under the impression you have gone blind before a night shift, run your hands over your face to double check and you will feel the eye mask on your face.

Couldn't you feel the mask on your face? First instinct would have been to put your hands up to your eyes... I hate those things cuz I feel it on my face the whole time I'm wearing it.

Agreed! I can never sleep in them. I always end up itching my face and pulling them off. I prefer the blanket over my head approach to block out the light.

How many pirates do you see with an eye patch over both eyes? Probably would have a hook on both hands too... "Hand me that twist top bottle of beer" "Arrrggh. I can't open it. 99 bottles to go"

Hopefully now you have some days off work, so you can sleep at night!

If only ear plugs were that good.. even 33 db rated don't cut everything out :-(

Being waken up during deep sleep sucks, doesn't it?
