These people are the worst

Today, my brother wore a T-shirt to my birthday party that said "I dig skinny chicks". I'm a recovering anorexic and told him that I didn't really like his shirt. His response? "Don't let the liberal media brainwash you into thinking it's OK to be fat." FML

I hope you punched him in the face. He's your brother, so it's alright for siblings to fight. Actually, while you're at it, give him a beating.

I'm sorry op. This really sucks and your brother doesn't deserve anything from you ever again. Except for maybe a punch in the face.

You're recovering, so you still win. Hope everything goes well on Recovery Road :)

The shirt said "i dig skinny chicks" not "i dig anorexic chicks" there's a difference.

As long as your healthy, the fact that you are "skinny" or "fat" is irrelevant. People don't seem to understand that body weight and shape is typically set by genetics, and get too caught up with what the media shoves down our throats. I'd hate to have a brother like yours, and if he was my brother I'd probably punch him.

Yall are looking to far into this. It's a shirt. He's not allowed to wear what he wants because his sister is sensitive (rightly so) about her eating disorder? It's not that serious. It's a shirt. When he has a picket sign saying he hates all fat people and only skinny people are acceptable, then be outraged. Even then it's his life. Get over it.

The reason the shirt can promote anorexia is because of the pressure to look a certain way to feel accepted. I'm not one of those people who believes magazines and other media make girls believe they should be skinny. Instead, I believe that magazines and other media cause men to believe women should be skinny. (This also works the other way with women and gay people, obviously.) So, when the perceived ideal of attractiveness is something that is not easily attained by everyone, it can have dire consequences. Men and women both have the innate drive to be attractive. When you perceive the people you're attracted to exhibiting behavior towards certain body types, you're more likely to take extreme measures toward that type. Eating disorders are about self-worth, and even if we don't want to admit it, many people determine their self-worth through being loved and accepted. So there isn't anything wrong with him liking skinny girls. But the OP understands that wearing it on a shirt can have a detrimental effect on others. Also, his attitude about being fat could be a red flag. Male anorexia is real, too. Also he grew up in an environment with an anorexic person, which effects his opinion of women and his future relationships.

You do realize that the definition of attractive means people want to look at you or look like you. And being fat is most often not attractive. Not only does being fat look gross, it indicates a lack of self respect or the ability to properly motivate yourself to accomplish personal goals, unless your personal goal is to be a fat.

Please punch him in the throat repeatedly. When he comes to again, remind him that he shouldn't let conservative media brainwash him: It's not okay to be a **** to others.

He has the right to wear whatever shirt he wants, that doesn't make it okay, though. He's still an insensitive prick for it.

I don't think it's so much about the shirt itself, but rather the insensitive reply he gave when she confronted him about it. The way he said it was almost like he was encouraging her to go back to anorexia.

yo, i'm sorry to hear that your brother is an asshole. that's really not cool. your body is yours, and i'm glad to hear you're recovering, that is a huge step. being fat or thin or in between, or whatever, is completely fine and your body is yours. and i'm sure, you are beautiful
